Bluewater Boathouse to Host Crawfish Boil and Gumbo in April

Popular sustainable seafood destination honors the Louisiana Crawfish Boil tradition with an April 9th tasting and month-long menu celebration.

Continuing in its quest to expose seafood fans to the best regional seafood dishes, special events and celebrations, Bluewater Boathouse is honoring Louisiana’s famous Crawfish Boil tradition throughout April.

Chefs will kick-off the Taste of Louisiana: Crawfish Boil & Gumbo with an April 9 tasting featuring whole crawfish seasoned with Cajun sauces followed by Crawfish Gumbo, a limited-time, Louisiana version of Bluewater’s popular year-around Cioppino.

To cool the authentic spices, bartenders will add a Sazerac or Gin Fizz, or a draft beer or house red or white wine, for the total-experience price of $40 on April 9 only. Seafood fans unable to make the Second Tuesday Tasting in April can enjoy the feast April 10-30 for the same price but without the cocktail, wine or beer.

“Every April and May in Louisiana, Mississippi and throughout the South, seafood fans come together for the time-honored tradition known as a Crawfish Boil,” said Bluewater co-owner and co-founder Jimmy Ulcickas. “For Northerners and others who haven’t experienced this Louisiana celebration, peeling and eating the shellfish with just your hands can be a little intimidating at first. Fortunately, our chefs and servers are here to make it fun and easy.”

Ulcickas also said that Bluewater chefs can adjust the spice level for seafood fans who may not be used to traditional Cajun seasoning. “At the end of the day, we want more of the world to love fresh fish as much as we do – and to become sustainable seafood fans for life.”

Consistent with Bluewater’s strict commitment to seafood sustainability, the crawfish and other seafood served throughout the month complies with sustainability standards established by the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach or other third-party organizations dedicated to fish-origin certification.

Offered on the second Tuesday of every month, Bluewater’s monthly tasting events allow seafood aficionados to satisfy their cravings in a spirited setting featuring the latest seasonal fresh fish varieties, regional celebrations and commentary by the restaurant’s resident seafood experts.  Resident chefs and seafood experts will be available to discuss specific preparation techniques, tips and recipes.
