Teal Steps Walk – September 23, 2018

The 3rd Annual Teal Steps Walk will be held Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Tidelands Park. Coronado’s Peg Ford is the President/Co-Founder of the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of San Diego and shared a bit about the event:

Join us for the 3rd annual Teal Steps Walk to benefit the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of San Diego. Choose to walk either 1 or 2-miles, out-and-back along Coronado’s bay front, and enjoy stunning views of San Diego’s skyline, passing ships, and much more. After the walk, enjoy refreshments, entertainment, raffle, silent auction and vendor booths. Registered participants each receive an event T-shirt featuring a new design for 2018. Team it up!

As they say, the more the merrier! Form a team and then invite your friends, coworkers, family…everyone to join it! New this year, teams with 20+ registered members by 9/10/18 will have their team name printed on the back of their shirts! This is a great way to stand out in the crowd on event day! Teams with 50+ registered members by 9/10/18 will get their team name on their shirts and a 10’ x 10’ pop-up, 8′ table and two chairs to use on walk-day! This provides a great pre- and post-walk meeting location for your team members. You can hang a banner on your pop-up, attach balloons or other decorations and stock up on snacks just for your team members! Teams of any size are encouraged to create a theme and show their spirit at the event! Get creative with matching socks, tutus, hats, sashes, signs, etc. We just ask that out of respect for our participating ovarian cancer survivors and wanting them to stand out in their teal shirts, teams refrain from creating their own teal colored shirts. We appreciate your understanding. Now go get creative!

Teal Heels – Take a Walk in Her Shoes

Calling all the fellas to “take a walk in her shoes!” Bring a pair of fancy schmancy heels (preferably in your size) on walk morning to participate in the Teal Heels walk. There is nothing special you need to do to participate, just meet the other Teal Heels walkers at the walk start line at 8:45 a.m. where you’ll have an opportunity to get glammed up even more before we send you off on a short walk around the event footprint to help us kick off the main walk. After your walk, kick off your heels (literally) and don more sensible shoes for our 9 a.m. official walk start.

Post-Walk Raffle

We are gathering some great prizes that we’ll be giving out at the event! Each walker will be given one complimentary ticket with their event materials and additional tickets will be available for purchase during the event for $1 each or an arm’s length for $10. All tickets must be turned in at the Ovarian Cancer Alliance booth to be eligible for the raffle. The raffle winners will be announced beginning at 10 a.m. from the main stage and all winners must be present to win.

Why We Walk

We walk to raise funds and awareness for ovarian cancer, the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women in the United States. As currently there is no screening test for the early detection of ovarian cancer, Ovarian Cancer Alliance of San Diego is working towards advancing cancer research and education of the medical community for early diagnosis; improving the quality of care for patients; and expanding their community outreach program, HEAR, to include all gynecologic cancer awareness to civic groups, organizations and the general public throughout the San Diego County.
