  • General Election Candidates: The extended nomination period for the November 6, 2018, General Election closed at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15. The nomination period was extended for non-incumbents as Councilwoman Carrie Downey decided not to run for re-election. The following candidates will be on the November 6 ballot for the two Council seats whose terms are up this year.  They are listed in ballot order as determined by a random alphabet drawing by the Secretary of State.
    Peter Jensen
    Marvin Heinze
    Derik Mundt
    Bill Sandke
    Mary Sikes

  • New Smoke-free Signs Going Up: Following the City Council’s adoption in July of an ordinance to regulate the use of electronic smoking devices in Coronado, new signs are going up along the commercial corridor. The signs outline that Coronado is smoke-free, which includes tobacco, marijuana and e-cigarettes. In 2014, the City adopted regulations prohibiting outdoor smoking on all outdoor public property, excluding the Golf Course, but the prohibition did not include e-cigarettes. The ordinance becomes effective August 16.
  • Golf Course Clubhouse Construction: The Golf Course Clubhouse kitchen requires the use of a mobile temporary “dishwashing trailer” now parked between the Clubhouse and the Cart Barn. Last week, staff learned that the wall between the Clubhouse kitchen restaurant dishwashing area and the dining room had suffered extensive water damage. Staff found that water had migrated through the floor and wall from the dishwashing area and damaged the adjoining wall. Work has begun to make repairs. The dishwashing trailer will provide the concessionaire the equipment needed to stay open and provide the restaurant dishwashing service while work continues. The trailer may be in place for several weeks while a contractor rebuilds the damaged area with the proper water barrier.

  • Cays Tennis Court Work: A light pole at the Cays Tennis Court No. 1 was found leaning this week. Public Services staff found the base rusted and structurally failing and fabricated a repair. A plan is being developed to also repair all the other light poles in the same manner. The court will be open this weekend for play and will be periodically closed for short periods during the normal work day until all poles have been repaired. Staff will minimize the impact on play time as much as possible while implementing this repair.
