Coronado’s Laundry Lounge Opens with Adjoining Sweat Equity Gym

Laundry Lounge signWhile converting LauderLand to a new laundromat and gym seemed to take forever to some islanders, the day has finally arrived. Sweat Equity and the Laundry Lounge are now open at 1007 Isabella Ave!

Liz and Nick Merrill moved to Coronado last summer and have invested months and months getting to know their neighbors. They’ve been offering daily free workouts at Spreckels Park and getting involved in the community and have finally achieved their goal. They pre-sold memberships and have loyal fans who showed up to celebrate for their first classes which began on Saturday, April 19 (the outdoor free workouts have ended).

Sweat EquityWhile there are several options on the island for working out, there was only one laundromat. Sadly, that closed just a month and a few days after I moved here, into a place with no washer and dryer. While I found my way to a suitable solution, it was over the bridge. I am not the only person who relied upon the old laundromat, and old it was. The Merrills have updated the space with state of the art “green” machines which are energy efficient and enable you to get in and out in under an hour. There will benches outside and chairs inside to sit while your wash and dryer loads are cycling and complimentary wifi. You don’t have to worry about collecting rolls of quarters, the machines take debit cards with pricing just about the same as the facility I was using. Laundry Lounge will be offering fluff and fold service for only $1.59 per pound; they soon expect to add pick-up and delivery services. Yep, you’ll be able to drop off your laundry and pick it up washed, folded and wrapped (like a magic genie did it!). They have their own parking lot too. Laundry Lounge machines

If you are super efficient you can put in your laundry and step through the doorway into the adjoining Sweat Equity, their new fitness center which replaces the outdoor workouts so generously gifted to the community for over six months. This is the second fitness location for the couple who have their flagship gym in Washington state. As Nick explains, there will be open gym time but the facility is geared toward trainer led classes which are comparable to a combination of CrossFit and Orangetheory with the strength training aspect of CrossFit and the cardio aspect of OT. They will be offering “My Zone” squares for heart tracking which you can monitor on video screen displays. The strength training portion of the classes are 1/3 with dumbbells, 1/3 with barbells and 1/3 bodyweight with TRX straps and step boxes. The cardio intervals will include step-mills, SkiErg, air runners (non-motorized treadmills), air bikes and ellipticals. Different classes are available for a large range of fitness levels.

Sweat Equity hours are 5:30am-7pm Monday through Friday with classes held throughout the day. Saturday and Sunday have shortened hours and fewer classes. For more information on Founders Special membership pricing, to see the class schedule or to reserve your spot in a class, visit their website www.sweatequitygym.com. 1007 Isabella Ave, 619-800-8637
