  • Cite Day: The Police Department’s Traffic Division held a maximum enforcement cite day on Thursday, April 11 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. The traffic corporal and three motor officers, one riding in a traffic vehicle, along with four Police Services Officers issued 57 traffic citations, 29 parking citations, 12 verbal warnings, one written warning, and had two misdemeanor arrests, two vehicles towed, and four reports.
  • Third and Fourth Streets Neighborhood Lighting Public Workshop: The City will hold a public workshop to show exhibits and let the community know about the Third and Fourth Streets Neighborhood Lighting and Landscape Improvements project. The purpose of the project is to help beautify and to continue to establish the Third and Fourth Streets corridor as special Coronado locations. The Open House format allows residents to drop in anytime from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, to view design alternatives and meet the project team. The event will be held in the Library’s Winn Room. For questions or more information, call City Engineer Ed Walton at (619) 522-7385.
  • Fire Department Labor Agreement Approved:  The City Council approved a three-year agreement with the Coronado Firefighters Association.  The agreement includes a 1.5 percent base pay adjustment for FY 2019-20, a base pay adjustment equivalent to the San Diego Consumer Price Index of the previous year (maximum 2.5 percent) for FY 2020-21, a holiday premium pay for FY 2018-19, and a 5 percent rescue merit premium pay effective starting next fiscal year.  Additionally, beginning in FY 2019-20, most firefighters will contribute an additional 1.5 percent on top of previous contributions, to their retirement account.  The net impact of these contract adjustments in FY 2018-19 is approximately $71,722. The estimated additional cost for all three years is $822,314.
  • Sea Lion Pup Rescue:  On Tuesday, April 17, Police Services Officers Jacob Koenig and Jose Sandoval responded to a call of a sea lion pup laying on the sand near Silver Strand Housing.  When they arrived, they noticed that the pup was thin and not moving well. They stayed with the pup until Sea World’s Rescue Team arrived and evaluated him. The team determined that the pup was dehydrated and malnourished and needed to be transported its care facility near Mission Bay for further treatment. We hope he feels better soon.
