  • Third and Fourth Streets Neighborhood Lighting Public Workshop: The City will hold a public workshop to show exhibits and let the community know about the Third and Fourth Streets Neighborhood Lighting and Landscape Improvements project. The purpose of the project is to help beautify and to continue to establish the Third and Fourth Streets corridor as special Coronado locations. The Open House format allows residents to drop in anytime from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, to view design alternatives and meet the project team. The event will be held in the Library’s Winn Room. For questions or more information, call City Engineer Ed Walton at (619) 522-7385.
  • Sunset Park Improvements Sod was installed this week on a project to improve Sunset Park. The park will remain fenced off for up to six weeks to allow the grass to establish roots before being opened to the public. While the sod is the most visible work being completed at Sunset Park, the main improvement involves the irrigation system upgrade. The old system had exceeded its life expectancy. Worn parts and controllers were causing substandard irrigation coverage and excessive watering. The improvements are expected to improve irrigation coverage, reduce water consumption by up to 20 percent once the grass has established itself, and make the safer park for patrons by having healthier, stronger and more even turf.
  • Summer Shuttle Ad Space: Coronado is offering interior advertising space on the City’s popular Free Summer Shuttles. Space is available to Coronado businesses and groups advertising local services and events. Four shuttles will operate between the Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. Advertisements are highly visible and an effective way to reach visitors as well as locals. There are more than 10 available spaces per bus. The shuttles will run from May 25 to September 3.Ads are displayed for a minimum of one month and can be purchased for up to three months, one on each bus. Cost is $125 per month per ad per bus for for-profit organizations and businesses, and $75 for nonprofit groups. Ad specifications and deadlines, and order forms can be found on the City’s website under City Manager’s Office, Summer Shuttle. The City offers the free shuttle service to reduce vehicle trips along the Orange Avenue corridor during the peak summer season. The Free Summer Shuttle program is sponsored by the City and Discover Coronado, which wraps the buses. For more information, email [email protected] or call (619) 522-7340.
