The Coronado Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce that the USS Midway Museum has signed on as the Title Sponsor for their 33rd Annual Salute to the Military Ball, set for Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Hotel del Coronado. The theme this year is “Coronado Remembers Vietnam Veterans” as a salute to all those who served, which aligned perfectly with the USS Midway, which made several deployments to Vietnam during its 47 years of service.
“Remembering and preserving the legacy of our Vietnam veterans is critical,” said USS Midway Museum President and CEO Mac McLaughlin. “The sacrifice of our friends and neighbors who served in that difficult time need to be showcased as a source of inspiration and recognition throughout the community.”
The USS Midway Museum regularly pays tribute to veterans of the Vietnam era. For example, it has hosted a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and made it accessible to Vietnam veterans 24 hours a day while it was displayed.
“We are gratified to be a partner as the Coronado Chamber of Commerce takes an inclusive approach to honoring these brave and selfless Americans,” added McLaughlin.
The Chamber is currently looking for other local businesses, organizations and individuals to help sponsor this annual event. Multiple sponsorship opportunities are available, starting at just $2,500. In addition to an amazing four-course dinner by the Hotel Del, wine service and entertainment for six guests, all table sponsorships enable two military couples to attend this special evening as complimentary guests. More information on sponsorship opportunities can be found on the Chamber website at http://www.coronadochamber.com/military-ball.
A new option this year for those who can’t attend the event but would still like to show their support is the Vietnam Veterans Table Sponsor, enabling 10 veterans to attend the event for free. The cost for this sponsorship if $2,500. You may also pay to host a hero at this event for just $225.
“This is a unique event, providing local businesses the opportunity to thank our military personally,” said Sue Gillingham, Executive Director of the Chamber. “We always have an amazing showing of support from Coronado, but we’re hoping for an even bigger turnout this year.”
The Chamber would like to thank the sponsors for this year’s Military Ball thus far: Boeing, Robert & Gail Bardin, the Coronado Island Film Festival, Coronado Private Bank, Glorietta Bay Inn, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Donna Salof, San Diego Family Housing, SEAL Family Foundation, Mike Woiwode, Gar Wright, and the USS Coronado.
Since 1985, the Coronado Chamber of Commerce has hosted this black tie affair, giving Coronado citizens and surrounding business communities an opportunity to show their thanks and support to local military members and their families. The evening will also include the presentation of the 19th annual Harry T. Jenkins Memorial Award and the 6th annual VADM James & Sybil Stockdale Award to deserving military members, as well as a special guest speaker to be announced. The Harry T. Jenkins Award emphasizes honor, integrity and commitment. The Stockdale Award recognizes a military couple who best exemplify the selfless service and dedication to the community, the Military, and the country.
