Preparation for Adaptive Traffic Signals on Silver Strand

The City has contracted with Siemens Industry Inc. to install adaptive traffic signals near and around Naval Amphibious Base Coronado on state Route 75. To calibrate the signal correctly, engineers will observe the peak-hour morning traffic and queue lengths using only the intersection’s signal. The City-funded manual traffic control will be halted during this observation period.

Without further notice and on a randomly selected Monday through Thursday within the next three weeks, manual traffic control will be removed and the signal will control traffic at Tarawa. It is important that traffic behavior is unmodified during this test period.

The City thanks the community for its patience while this important monitoring is conducted. It will serve as the basis for calibrating the traffic signals in the area to maximize the safe flow of traffic where the traffic volume and pedestrian crossings vary.
