  • Fire Rings Replacement:  The City removed and replaced all eight fire rings at Coronado’s North Beach this week. The current rings were nine years old and battered, some with exposed rebar. On Thursday, April 20, crews disposed of the current rings and installed new fire rings today, April 21.

  • Bike Month:  May is Bike Month and Coronado will be celebrating bicycling throughout the month. On May 2, the mayor is set to present a proclamation announcing the City’s involvement in bike month activities, including the May 7 Amazing Race for Children’s Wishes; Bike to School Day on May 10; Bike to Work Day on May 18; Coronado Bikes to the Movies on May 19; Bike to Work Week May 15-19; and the Mayor’s Ride on May 20. • Silver Strand Speed Reduction: During construction of a new signalized intersection at the Hooper Boulevard entrance to the Coronado Coastal Campus project, speed limits along state Route 75 will be temporarily reduced to 55 mph (from 65 mph) from Coronado Cays Boulevard to Rainbow Drive starting Monday, April 24. The new speed will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and last through October 2018, when the signalized intersection is expected to be completed. See signage map. That stretch of the Silver Strand can be dangerous, most recently being the site of a serious-injury accident. On Tuesday, April 18, a motorcyclist was involved in an accident in which he was thrown from his bike south of the Coronado Cays.

  • Free Vacation House Checks:  Are you traveling this season? If so, the Police Department wants to remind you about free vacation house checks for Coronado residents.  Senior Volunteers make sure your home is safe and secure while residents are away, by performing security inspections around your home.  If they see anything suspicious, they will call for the assistance of an officer to determine if there’s been a break-in.  To obtain such a service, please stop by the Department and complete a vacation house check form.
