Each week, the City Manager’s Office provides an update that includes information on programs, services and issues within the City, as well as news, project updates and follow-up information when necessary.
Get up to speed on what’s going on in Coronado with this video preview of the latest edition of the Coronado City Manager’s Weekly Update, as well as a sample of the updates below. Get detailed information on the City’s website.
- Beach Fire Rings: As spring warms up and with summer ahead, the City reminds the community and visitors that burning wood from pallets is prohibited at the beach. City staff including beach lifeguards and police department personnel patrol the beaches as part of their general duties. When they witness beachgoers with pallets or engaging in other violations of beach rules, they approach and educate to correct future behaviors. Signage has been placed at the main entrances to the fire ring area to inform the public of the rules. The Police Department will begin deploying an electronic sign board on weekends, when available. Additionally, security guards will be hired to patrol the fire ring area in the evenings between Memorial Day and Labor Day as in past years. This has proved successful in preventing violations at the fire rings and more quickly addressing those they were are not able to prevent.
- Oops! Sign Draws Attention to Rules: The City’s super-secret plan to get people to read its publicly posted signs around Coronado has worked. Some eagle-eyed locals found the small detail in the sign that was strategically placed (Ha!) to get the attention of pedestrians, especially the youth, in the City’s business district. In the sign found on Orange Avenue, the skateboarding and roller-skating icons are switched. There are no plans to immediately change the sign. But keep your eyes peeled, you never know if it will be corrected. All kidding aside, let’s not forget that downtown sidewalks are for pedestrians only and that you may not ride bicycles, roller skates or skateboards per Coronado’s Municipal Code.
- Spreckels Park: A new “Playground Rules” sign was installed at the Spreckels Park playground above the all-inclusive swing this week. The sign is posted to encourage courteous behavior when using all playground equipment and as a reminder to yield the use of the swing to those who are not able to use other parts of the play structure.
