Coronado Golf Course Pro Shop’s Grand Opening on Friday

Please join the City of Coronado and Brian Smock Golf in a celebratory Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the Coronado Golf Shop this Friday, February 24 at 11am. The ceremony serves as the Grand Opening of the newly renovated and reopened Golf Shop, as well as a chance for the community to meet the Coronado Golf Course new Head Pro Brian Smock and his team.

Along with the new Golf Shop, the Coronado Golf Course is also rolling out its brand new fleet of EZ Go Golf Carts. Powered by lithium ion batteries and guaranteed to be maintenance free for five years, the Coronado Golf Course is the first in the country to have these top-of-the-line golf carts that come equipped with GPS and USB charging ports.

A Coronado native, Smock officially took over as Head Golf Pro on February 1st. He is just the fourth Head Pro in the golf course’s 60 years of operation. The 1991 Coronado High graduate’s professional career spans 18 years of play around the world and on the National Tour for the past 10 years, where he achieved a career high world ranking of 251. He holds nine course records, seven in San Diego. His lowest round ever was carded at the Coronado Golf Course, when he shot a record setting 60. That seems only fitting as the first course he played was the Coronado Golf Course at just 12 years old.

“I’m looking forward to carrying on the tradition of great golf here in Coronado and taking the course to the next level. I am so thankful to this community for rallying behind me, wanting me to take over as Head Pro,” said Smock. “It’s been a team effort, working with the City, on the remodel. I’m excited to show Coronado the new look with a broader range of price points.”

Smock has big plans for the Golf Shop, starting with an almost exclusive partnership with Callaway Golf for products. Callaway, the biggest brand name in golf, will be supplying 65 sets of brand new rental clubs, providing patrons the very best options while at the Coronado Golf Course. Patrons will also be able to participate in “Demo Days” with vendors right at the course, giving them a chance to try out new clubs firsthand before purchasing, instead of just buying a set off the rack and hoping they work.

“I have such an incredible team of professionals that I’ve been able to lean on during this transition, for which I’m extremely grateful,” said Smock.

Smock is joined by General Manager Chris Brown, former Head Pro from Carlton Oaks, Tournament Director Tim Parun, former Head Pro at Cottonwood, Maderas and Sail Ho, Assistant Professional Shantel Nemecek from The Bridges, and Assistant Professional Tyler Pritkin, developer of an award-winning Junior Golf program at Bear Creek Country Club.

Heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served following the ceremony, and guests are encouraged to stay and meet the Golf Pros for an afternoon of fun, games and prizes. The Coronado Golf Shop will be open for business.
