  • Storm Preparation/Response:  A major storm is expected to hit San Diego County today and tomorrow, February 17-18. High gusty winds and several inches of rain are forecast, although moderate tides may help to prevent more serious flooding issues. Residents and business owners should be prepared before, during and after a storm. In Coronado, sandbags are available for residents in need, while supplies last, at four locations: First Street and Alameda Boulevard; Fourth Street and Alameda; North Beach; and at the Cays near the Fire Station. The priority for Public Services crews, who are on call this weekend, will be on monitoring storm drains and cleaning fallen trees and debris. Flags will be taken down to avoid being damaged. The City asks residents to avoid parking on the street if possible to allow rain water to flow unobstructed into the storm drains. Use the City’s “Ask Coronado” app to report minor damage. Call (619) 522-7380 to report trees down or other debris in the roadways, or major flooding, during business hours, but call the Police Department’s non-emergency line (619) 522-7350 over the weekend. If it is an actual emergency, call 911.
  • Presidents Day HolidayThe City of Coronado will observe the Presidents Day holiday on Monday, February 20, but reminds residents and businesses that some municipal facilities will be open. Coronado Police and Fire will be staffed for the holiday. Public Services crews also will be on call on Monday to respond to emergencies but will not sweep streets on the holiday. EDCO will perform regular residential trash collection on Presidents Day. Certain City of Coronado departments and services will be open with varying hours of operation. Here is the schedule:

  • Digital Media Lab:  The soft opening and ribbon cutting for the Digital Media Lab took place this week. The Digital Media Lab contains equipment to convert analog to digital formats, such as converting slides, negatives and printed photos to digital storage devices. It also has equipment to design and print color fliers or posters, as well as to scan and 3-D print. A graphics tablet is available to be used with either PC or Apple computers. The lab is a great resource for students and local groups interested in the types of state of the art equipment and programs the facility provides. Along with Library’s high-speed broadband connection and computers on order, the Digital Media Lab adds to the multimedia services the City of Coronado continues to provide in this fast-changing technological era.
