The Coronado Arts Education Foundation in conjunction with the Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) is pleased to announce its first event of the 2016-2017 season, the Fall Instrumental Music Recital, which takes place on October 18 at 7 p.m. The recital will feature the talents of the instrumental musician students at COSA and will be held in the Black Box theater located at the corner of D Street and Sixth Avenue on the campus of Coronado High School.
The program includes a string ensemble, a woodwinds ensemble, two jazz bands and several soloists and small groups. Works performed will include music by Gustav Holst, W.A. Mozart, Duke Ellington and others.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and the military, and $3 for students and staff of Coronado Unified School District. Tickets may be purchased at the door of the Black Box theater.
“Kicking off the season with an instrumental concert is very exciting, because music unites people, and bringing together our community is a key focus of COSA and really of art overall,” Lorraine Castellanos, director of COSA’s instrumental music program, says. “People who love music will enjoy the concert, because our students are gifted, hard-working performers. The students are excited, because it gives us an opportunity to say thank you to this great community that continues to emphasize the value of the arts. We want to invite everyone to come spend this evening with us.”
The Coronado Arts Education Foundation was formerly the COSA Foundation. The name change reflects the foundation’s expanded mission to support arts education at all levels in Coronado and in the entire San Diego region. The 2016-2017 season includes more than 30 events featuring the various COSA conservatories including digital arts, visual arts, dance, musical theater and instrumental music as well as performances from Village Elementary School, Silver Strand Elementary School and Coronado Middle School students.
