- Brian Smock Golf: The City Council approved an agreement this week for Brian Smock to serve as the new Head Golf Professional at the Coronado Municipal Golf Course. His contract begins February 1, 2017. The Coronado native and 1991 Coronado High graduate’s professional career spans 18 years of play around the world and on the National Tour for the past 10 years. The City is excited to have Smock whose proposal was thorough, complete, well-thought out, and reflected a full understanding of the Coronado Municipal Golf course and its potential. The key components of the agreement include the rehabilitation of the pro shop; all new golf cars with GPS; improving the overall golf experience; great commitment to the teaching program, including reduced costs for the junior program; and enhanced public service. - Newsrack Ordinance Updated: In an effort to clean up the mismatched accumulation of newsracks along Orange Avenue and make sidewalks safer, the City Council adopted new rules this week to create a more uniform and cleaner look. The City updated its newsrack ordinance to standardize the locations and appearance of all newsracks in the City, as well as improving their aesthetics and safety. The cleanliness and beauty of the City’s commercial corridor is vital to Coronado’s village atmosphere and a point of community pride. Existing newsracks already permitted by the City will be allowed to relocate to a City-provided newsrack shell. Newsracks not in compliance with the new ordinance will be removed from public property. For more information, see the City’s press release here.
- Glorietta Bay Pump Station Structural Repairs: The contractor on the Glorietta Bay Pump Station project began erecting the scaffolding within the wet well this week in anticipation of beginning the concrete repairs. That work is scheduled to begin next week.
