Jennifer Moore, Coronado High School Principal, is excited to introduce Dennis Perez, new Assistant Principal at CHS! Welcome, Dennis, to the Islander Family, and we look forward to working with you!

Below is a message from Dennis:

Hello Coronado High School Community:

My name is Dennis Perez. I am excited about coming aboard and collaborating with you as your next assistant principal. My family and I are thrilled about getting to know everyone in the Coronado High School and CUSD communities! I am coming from Fallbrook High School, where I also worked as an assistant principal. My family and I however have been living in Mission Valley for three years. This September, we will be moving into our new home in Otay Ranch!

My wife, Dr. LuzElena, and I have been married for almost 15 years; she is also a school administrator. We enjoy watching our two children Monique (21, a recent graduate of University of Oregon) and Clarice (13, a 9th grader at San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts), pursue their passions of public relations and acting, respectively. I am completing my doctorate in educational leadership from Liberty University this year. I enjoy traveling, running, family, sports, performing arts, and building community.

My journey in education has also included an undergraduate degree from Humboldt State and a master’s degree from Cal State San Bernardino. Before becoming an administrator, I was a teacher for many years. My areas of instruction included English, social science, and English language development. I also coached cross country and track. Other administrative duties included being an English language development coordinator and administrative designee for discipline. I proudly served in the United States Naval Reserve as a field hospital corpsman with the United States Marines.

My academic research background includes a thesis on multiple intelligences. I am currently completing my dissertation on the topic of the social and academic experiences of 21st century digital learners. I have focused my instructional leadership in areas of restorative practices and common core implementations with Webb’s depth of knowledge levels. I firmly believe in the collaborative model in creating the best learning environments for students.

I look forward to embracing the Coronado High School and CUSD system while building relationships that contribute to student success. One of my favorite Winston Churchill quotes that I apply to kids and their pursuit of their goals and learning is “Never give in–never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense”. I thank you for this opportunity to serve the Islanders community.

Always,

Dennis Perez
