Thank Our Local Heroes at Chamber’s Celebrate Coronado Event on July 14th

“Host a Hero” to attend this annual event held in their honor for just $50!

CORONADO, CA (July 1, 2016) – It’s not often that we have the chance to thank the men and women who protect and care for this city. The police officers, firefighters, lifeguards and city employees who safeguard our streets, houses, beaches and parks. They work hard day in and day out, so the Coronado Chamber of Commerce has set aside Thursday, July 14th as the day to thank them at their annual Celebrate Coronado event, a community-wide celebration honoring our city and all its local heroes.

“We would love to have the entire community come out to join us in our annual celebration of all things Coronado,” said Sue Gillingham, Executive Director at the Coronado Chamber of Commerce.

The event is open to the public and tickets are now on sale for just $50. The Chamber is also asking the community to help “Host a Hero” at the event. For just $50, you can purchase a ticket so that a Coronado firefighter, police officer, lifeguard or city employee can attend this annual event, thrown in their honor, for free.

“Hosting a hero is the perfect way to thank these hardworking men and women for all they do for us,” said Gillingham. “This event is where we award our Coronado Police Officer of the Year, Firefighter of the Year, Lifeguard of the Year and the newly introduced City Employee of the Year, so the event is truly held in their honor. The award recipients attend for free, but we would love to be able to extend invitations to more local heroes, which is why we’re asking the community to pitch in.”

This year’s Islander theme pays homage to Mayor Casey Tanaka, who will also be honored at the event. Guests will sip the complimentary signature drink, a Mai Tai, all while enjoying the fabulous bay view at the Coronado Community Center’s Nautilus Room and enjoying an “Islander” themed menu from numerous local restaurants and chefs, including the Hotel del Coronado, Il Fornaio, Loews Coronado Bay Resort and Mike’s Island Dip.

“We’re encouraging everyone to get in the spirit of the Islander theme and break out their Hawaiian apparel for the night, Tanaka-style,” Gillingham said. “Ukulele band, hula dancers and leis will be provided!”

Guests will also have the chance to bid on a variety of locally sourced opportunity prizes, such as a two-night weekend stay at the Hotel del Coronado that also includes spa treatments and brunch for two, a bike provided by Holland’s Bicycles and many more. All proceeds will go directly towards the Chamber’s annual Coronado High School Aspire Business Scholarship.

Additionally, the Chamber will induct their 2016-2017 Board of Directors and will present their selected Volunteer of the Year and Lewis R. Hardy, Jr. Award for service to the community.

All are invited to attend this celebratory evening, and tickets are now on sale for just $50. Tickets include the local restaurant showcase dinner, a signature drink and the night’s entertainment, and can be purchased on the Chamber’s website.

The Chamber would like to give a special thanks to the Hotel del Coronado for their support as the event’s main Celebration Sponsor, as well as sponsors California America Water Company, CMG Mortgage, Crestmont Property Management, Coronado Eagle & Journal, Glorietta Bay Inn and Village Theatres. Another thanks goes to Bella Beverage for sponsoring the evening’s signature cocktail and to Crown City Photography for providing the evening’s photography.
