1st Annual CTA All Star Tennis Tournament Declared a Success!

It looks like Coronado Tennis Association has a new annual event after the successful debut of the “1st Annual CTA All Star Tennis” for adults and juniors. It was the brain child of Duane Weekly and he put months of work and energy into making this first event such a fun success for the community.

It was an all-day event with an “all star” tennis competition, racquet demos, clinics and an exhibition game by the local pros, as well as a silent auction, raffle prizes and wonderful street tacos by El Tapatio. The proceeds from the event are going to youth tennis programs in Coronado.

Duane Weekly approached Coronado Tennis Association to sponsor and help out with his idea to hold a two-team tennis match of “all stars” around Coronado. The teams were picked and coached by the local pros. The pros also played an exhibition game and held clinics and volunteered a lot of time and energy. Many Thanks to Bryan Conway, Derek Kelly, Mario DiLonardo and Narelle Pettee. There were also MANY other volunteers to help plan and direct the day’s events and make it run smoothly. Special Thanks goes out to CTA Board members Vivian McAnally, Debbie McBride, Jim Nelson, Nevie Nelson and Jennie Portelli, who volunteered the entire day too. Jeff of JTF images took great photos all day for free as well.

The list of sponsors and others who gave generous donations are Sushi On A Roll – SOAR, Crossfit Coronado, JTF Images, Austin’s Gallery, PRP Wine Int’l, Blue Water Restaurant, Bayside Restaurant, High Tide Bottle Shop & Kitchen, Fire & Fly Pizzas, Phil Swartz, Susy Weekly.

CTA is looking forward to improving the event even more next year, with more teams to allow more court time for the competition portion of the day. They look forward to seeing everyone out there again next year. Throughout the year, CTA has many mixers and other fun tennis events. To find out what’s happening, check in at the Coronado Tennis Center or go online to the Coronado Tennis Association website for more information on upcoming events and how to become a member.
