Taylor Swift Chooses Coronado to Kick Off “Hometown Tour”

UPDATE: Happy April Fool’s Day!

On April 1, the board of Coronado Promenade Concerts (CPC) informed eCoronado.com that special guest Taylor Swift will be opening the summer concert series on Sunday, May 29th, 2016.  Yes, that Taylor Swift!

“The secret was leaked that one of the top performing artists in the country will be making her way to the first 2016 Concert in the Park,” reported Ray Gosselin, talent co-chair for CPC. Gosselin then revealed that the guest will be none other than 10-time Grammy Award winning artist Taylor Swift, best known for songs like “You Belong With Me,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and “Shake It Off.”

The guest performance will kick off a surprise national “Hometown Tour” for Taylor Swift, a new experience to bring her country singing and pop stardom to the parts of America she loves best. Coronado is the singer’s first stop, but her tour will span the country from coast to coast.

CPC produces and manages the annual Spreckels Park summer concert series. The 2016 series features 18 concerts across five months sponsored by individuals and business patrons. Every summer Sunday in Coronado, music lovers from all over the island and across the bridge arrive with picnic dinners and plastic goblets. Many come hours ahead of the concert start time to stake out their spot on the grass at Spreckels Park.

However, this year people may arrive earlier than ever in order to reserve a seat on the lawn.

There will be minions of teeny boppers parading around in Taylor Swift t-shirts with their parents in tow, waiting for a glimpse of the star.”

Local law enforcement voiced similar concerns. “The concerts in the park have grown in size and popularity,” says local police officer Lirpa Sloof, “with well over 4,500 to 5,000 attending each Sunday evening. However, Taylor Swift is no tribute band — she’s the real deal. The Coronado Police Department has begun to discuss how to handle the enormous influx of visitors to the island on May 29th, especially regarding parking and seating overflow from Spreckels Park.”

When asked if Coronado’s city government has been informed, Ryan Gosselin reported that the board has yet to warn Mayor Casey Tanaka and City Council.

Gosselin did add, “For those of you wanting a VIP experience, tickets will go on sale on the CPC website for this free concert.” He said the board is still discussing what this VIP experience will involve, but he hoped to incorporate a true Coronado experience for Swift as well as a once-in-a-lifetime day for her fans.
