Smart & Final is Not the Solution

Letters to the Editor submitted to eCoronado.com are the opinions of the author who signs the letter and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the publisher, editors or writers of eCoronado. The line "By Managing Editor" or "By admin" indicate who published the author's letter.

Am I the only one in town who thinks a “bundled in bulk” bid by Smart and Final is not the solution for a full-service grocery store in Coronado? Granted, I have not been in a Smart and Final Extra store, but think the original store concept would not be a “fit” for Coronado, and would suffer the same fate as Haggen. Why did Gelson’s not bid on the Coronado location, and only on La Jolla, Del Mar and Carlsbad?

If Smart and Final doesn’t work out, maybe, when Walgreens buys Rite Aid, Vons will finally really remodel, de-clutter and enlarge their lucrative store into the Rite Aid location.

We have free enterprise, but is anyone looking out for our great little City?
