Update from the Coronado Bike Safety Group (CBSG)

The Bike Safety Group was formed in Coronado earlier this summer. You can read more about it by visiting this previous eCoronado.com story.

Since August, CBSG has been working hard to increase awareness of bike safety and to seek solutions. One member worked with Coronado Middle School to develop a video–created by students– aimed at educating fellow students on bike safety. Their first video is outstanding and can be viewed at this link: http://coronadotv.me/cms/10272015-1454

More students around Coronado have been seen obeying traffic laws and wearing their helmets.

CBSG has also worked with the Coronado Police and elected leaders to raise awareness of bike safety and of steps needed to promote improvements. Has there been any improvement?  YES! It has been noticed that bike-riding students and adults are wearing helmets more frequently, riding with lights at night, stopping at STOP signs, and using bike lanes. Our police officers have been seen interacting with bikers, too.

A huge thank you to all who are acting to improve bike safety practices in our community. Please keep it up–we will all be safer and our streets more friendly to all. As good bike practices are adopted by more and more, comfort will grow amongst all who use our streets.

CBSG remains committed to an environment in Coronado that allows all to enjoy our beautiful residential streets at all times of the day without fear of being hit by or hitting a car, a bike, or a skate boarder. CBSG is committed to accomplishing this vision through cooperation with the schools, police, parents, and media.
