A tentative agreement for a two-year contract was reached this morning (10/20/15) by the Coronado Unified School District (CUSD) and the California School Employees Association, AFL-CIO and its Coronado Chapter No. 386, Unit-One and Unit-Two (CSEA). This agreement achieves the main goal desired of both sides— a pay raise that recognizes the remarkable work classified staff perform daily to support the education and well-being of CUSD students. The agreement also aligns with the CUSD Governing Board’s financial philosophy to pay all employees at or above the average salary of comparable districts, and to attract and retain the best possible employees for the District and the Coronado community.
The tentative agreement includes a 5.3% increase for all classified employees, retroactive to July 1, 2015. An additional retroactive increase will be applied to those employees who have been paid below average compared to other local districts based on the Ewing Classification and Compensation Study’s recommendations (see link #1). CUSD and CSEA also committed to an implementation of the Ewing Study job classifications as CUSD job classifications, and to supporting the job reclassification process for any employees who feel their new job classification does not accurately represent the work actually performed.
The tentative agreement will be presented at a time to be determined to the local membership of CSEA for ratification. If the local members ratify the tentative agreement, final approval of the tentative agreement could be presented to the CUSD Governing Board as early as November 19th in the Board’s next regularly scheduled meeting.
