Taste of Brazil Cooking Demo at Coronado Library Scheduled for June 18

The Coronado Library Summer Festival’s second program is a cooking demonstration of Brazilian cuisine on Thursday on Thursday June 18 at 2:00 pm in the Winn Room. Tickets will be required.

Brazilian food is an exuberant, colorful mix of Portuguese, African and native foods, including some from the Amazon. Come experience a hands on demonstration of how to cook a typical Brazilian meal, including the national dish of Brazil, feijoada. It’s a hearty meat stew made from pork and black beans. You will also learn to make (and imbibe in) Brazilian limonada, one of the best thirst quenchers ever. The delicious stew will be accompanied by Brazil’s famous Pao de Queijo, or cheese rolls with soft chewy centers. To top off your class, you will learn to make brigadiero, a Brazilian sweet like a bonbon, universally loved by everyone! Once the demonstration is complete, a sample of all food will be enjoyed by all.

The class will be taught by Carolyn De Lagrave, who lived, raised her family, and cooked, in Brazil for years. She is known to Coronado as one of the former co-owners of Alexander’s Pizza, and the heart and soul of many charitable works in town. She loves to cook and share her knowledge of the magic that happens in a kitchen. She has recently taught cooking classes for teenaged survivors of human trafficking, and was a co-teacher for the Turkish cooking class for the library series last year. Her assistant this year will be Wendy McGuire, former owner of Ganosh Gourmet, and co-teacher with Carolyn on many happy occasions.

Join us in the Winn Room, June 18, 2-4 pm. Seating will be limited to 40 people. Bring your appetites! Recipes will be handed out at the class, no other equipment necessary. Tickets are free but must be picked up at the Library. Tickets will only be honored until 2:00 pm after which standby holders will be admitted.
