Coronado Boys Tennis Edged by La Jolla Country Day 8-10 in CIF Final

Coronado Islanders freshmen Bernardo Garcia, the boys tennis teams #3 singles player, battles it out during the final match of the CIF Championship against La Jolla Country Day, Monday, May 11, 2015, at Barnes Tennis Center.

Garcia won two of his sets but lost the third set against La Jolla’s #1 singles player 3-6. The Islanders finished in second place with the final score 8-10, Coronado won eight sets in singles and La Jolla Country Day won 10 (one singles and 9 doubles sets).

Coach David Brummitt shared: The Coronado Boy’s Tennis team had a great season and competed very well. They pulled together and played with a lot of heart and guts. They played several great matches this year including a 9-9, 74-69 victory over La Jolla to end the regular season. Earlier rounds in the team CIF post season included victories over Ramona, Mt Carmel and St Augustine. They were only 1 match away from winning the CIF title vs La Jolla Country Day for the second time in two years. Nationally ranked Billy Rowe and Ryan Seggerman both swept all three singles sets in commanding form although going down with a score of 8-10.

The Western Conference Individual Tournament Semi Finals hosts three Coronado singles players who all earned a berth in next weeks CIF tournament. Because both Billy Rowe (the #1 seed) and Bernardo Garcia are from CHS, the Semi-final will take place at the Coronado High School courts on Thurs 14 May at 2 pm.

Come watch and see the exceptional level of tennis. If Ryan Seggerman (the #2 seed) wins his semi-final then the Final for Western Conference will be at the Coronado High School courts at 3:30.
