On Wednesday, March 18th, Operation Bigs presented a Safety Expo at Silver Strand Elementary during the weekly Operation Bigs after-school program. Representatives from the Coronado Fire Department, Coronado Police Department, and Lifeguard Services were in attendance to talk to the kids, demonstrate some of their departments’ equipment and provide information on how each department helps keep the Coronado community safe.
The event was open to the school and kids had the opportunity to climb in a fire truck, test out police sirens and sit on a lifeguard jet ski.
The event was coordinated by Mike Lawton, Coronado Police Commander and Operation Bigs volunteer. It was both fun and educational and was a great opportunity for the Silver Strand community to meet some of Coronado’s finest hometown heroes.
Currently, there are still 10 kids waiting to receive a “Big” so they can participate in the Operation Bigs program. For more information or if you are interested in volunteering, please contact Milvi Chao at [email protected] or (858) 746-9169.
