Coronado Unified School District Superintendent, Dr. Jeff Felix was joined by Dr. Jay Marquand (CMS Principal), Claudia Gallant (CUSD Senior Director of Learning and Instruction), Jenny Moore (CHS Principal), Dawn Ovrom (President of the School Board), Steve Abbott (CHS Assistant Principal), Maria Simon (School Board Member), Whitney DeSantis (Village Elementary Principal), Tom Bevilacqua (Village and Strand Elementary Assistant Principal) and Bill Cass (Strand Elementary Principal) to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
Dawn Ovrom and the school board were challenged by the staff at eCoronado.com. Several other educators from around San Diego county were called out by the participants, including Dr. Kevin Holt, Superintendent of the San Marcos School district and former CHS Principal Karl Mueller (now the Principal at Canyon Crest Academy). Shane Schmeichel, CHS Assistant Principal and Director of COSA was challenged by Mr. Bevilacqua.
There was a decent crowd at Niedermeyer Field to witness the event. Dr. Felix accepted the challenge in honor of a friend who had ALS. ALS stands for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and, according to the ALS website “is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. ” For more information or to donate to ALS, please visit www.alsa.org.
Take a look at the eCoronado.com staff taking the challenge on the beach in front of the Del here.
