THANK YOU CORONADO! The Junior Optimist Club at Coronado Middle School is happy to thank all those who so generously donated to the Pasta for Pennies fundraiser to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In person and online donations this year totaled over $4,300. Way to go CMS students and families!
On Monday, February 3rd all Coronado Middle School students received a letter about the Pasta for Pennies fundraiser as well as a personal coin box. Students are encouraged to fill the box with coins collected from their friends and family and deposit the coins in their white classroom box. The homeroom that collects the most money per person will be awarded a pasta party from The Olive Garden restaurant. This fundraiser is coordinated by the Coronado Middle School Junior Optimist Club.
Each year the Junior Optimist Clubs worldwide are partnered up with a cancer charity in their area. Once again the CMS JO club has partnered with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, an organization chosen in honor of the late husband of a CMS teacher who passed away from leukemia.
All money collected from our school will go to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Leukemia and Lymphoma are cancers of the blood that start in a person’s bone marrow. Treatments for the disease are chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants. There are over nine hundred thousand people living with blood cancer in the United States. This year alone, an estimated thirteen thousand Californians will be diagnosed with blood cancer, but unfortunately forty five percent of them will lose their life. The survival rate for leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, however, has more than doubled since 1960 thanks to major scientific breakthroughs funded by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. With your support we can help the society work towards their goal of wiping out this cancer.
This fundraiser runs through February 20th so start looking under those sofa cushions, dig down in those car seats, and start bringing in your coins!
Community members can donate money by placing it in the donation box in the CMS front office located at 550 F Avenue or visiting the website here. Thanks for your support!

Students grades 6-8 can join at any time during the year by filling out a membership application available outside the door of room 210. Applications should be returned to Ms. Landry.
