‘Anchorman 2’ Goes Hilariously Over-the-top

For those of you who loved and long awaited the return of Ron Burgundy, you will not be disappointed with Anchroman 2: The Legend Continues. Producer Jud Appatow brings back the extremely off-beat and mostly distasteful news-team, formed by Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Steve Carell. With stars like these, the movie was destined to be hilarious and odd. The four best friends and co-anchors come together to make a comeback onto the news scene. They made it big in the first movie, and try to go bigger this time around.

Burgundy (Ferrell) leads the movie with out-of-the-blue references and punch-lines. Throughout the movie, you catch yourself gasping in disbelief at most of the things that come out of his mouth. Nothing is off limits or too risky to talk about; race, sex, religion, everything is on the table to be talked about in outrageous ways. Bordering on funny and bizarre throughout, there are times when the movie goes way too over the top. Fellow movie-goer Stan Reyes says, “It was hilarious; even more over-the-top than the first one.” I definitely laughed, but I definitely went, “Huh?” The plot line is completely nonsensical and most of it pretty unnecessary, but that’s what original Anchorman fans love.

Somehow, this unrealistic news-team gets you thinking about the truth and untruth exposed to the public on the news these days. The movie is not politically controversial, but there is definitely a statement being made about how news can manipulate world events and public knowledge, giving the movie another level of respect. The best part, as in every great movie, is the end which is packed with countless famous cameos (Jim Carey and Tina Fey to name a couple), explosions, surprises, and laughs.
