We, the Coronado Scribes, consist of both professional and amateur writers. We have in common a desire to learn, by sharing our efforts and listening to other writers. We hold pressure-less sessions every Wednesday, at the Coronado Library conference room, starting at 1:30. Often we have guests who wish to just listen. They are welcome, and so are you.
Each week on eCoronado, we feature a different piece of prose or poetry produced by one of our writers. Please feel free to comment or ask questions in the comment section below.
The Walk to Hawaii
We are over 18 months on this journey.
According to my calculations, we are over three years away,
Which does not include the 5-year return trip.
We might have to concede and fly back.
I measure our progress against our morning walks.
We are covering about 2.5 miles 3.5 days a week.
Allowing for time away, probably 40 weeks a year.
We travel light, no luggage and usually fair weather.
Today the ocean, our constant companion,
Seems brooding, reflecting the gray foreboding sky.
The choppy sea, in these protected waters,
Suggests a storm further up the coast.
Both visitors and locals believe it would be criminal
To not walk the miles of uninterrupted coast line,
That is Coronado’s ocean profile,
Before a mandatory coffee and chocolate-chip cookie.
Oh lord, I am insufferable.
Do I not sit as though a sovereign,
Elevated enough to view the strollers,
Offer an occasional nod, and mark my good fortune?
