SAN DIEGO, CA September 14, 2012 The Miracle League of San Diego opens its second field on Saturday, September 22nd at 11:00am at Green Field at Coronado High School. Opening ceremonies, led by Jane Mitchell, Coronado resident and President of One on One Enterprises, will celebrate the Green Field inaugural season with a parade of teams. Two games will also be played to kick off the season with its 61 new players. Volunteers are still needed to help during the season, running Saturdays through November 17th.
“We are thrilled to have the support of the Coronado Unified School District and the Coronado business community in bringing Miracle League baseball to the South Bay. Superintendent Jeffrey Felix, Coronado High Varsity Football and Softball Coach Tony Isabella, Coronado Optimist Club Vice President Mark Blumenthal and Special Education Parent Advisory Committee President Lina Douglas were instrumental in this effort,” says Miracle League president and co-founder Dan Engel. “We look forward to growing participation exponentially and serving the South Bay for years to come.”
The Miracle League of San Diego is a non-profit organization that gives children with disabilities a chance to play baseball as part of a team in an organized league. Volunteers are the core of the Miracle League, from running the snack bar to helping with set up and take down. Another way volunteers contribute is to be a “buddy” to a player, helping them on the field during games. Over the course of the season buddies and players form friendships that can only be described as truly amazing. For the new South Bay league, the Miracle League is still in need of many more volunteers and buddies to help make this season a success. The South Bay field is located at 7th & G Avenue, Coronado, CA, 92118. Click here to see a map. Parking is available near the field with an ADA accessible ramp from the lot to the field entrance. Daily parking is available in the east parking lot between Green Field and the football stadium. Additional parking can be found on F and 6th Ave.
