Joe Ditler Writes… While director of the Coronado Museum (2005-8) I located, found funding for, and acquired the 1923 original Hotel del Coronado Laundry truck from the Roaring Twenties. Thanks to Bruce Coons for keeping her safe all these years. Thanks to Colonel Richard Kenney for generously funding her purchase. And now she is back in Coronado, back home, where she belongs. The car’s name is Isabelle. She’s a lovely Model T panel truck that had been restored by the grandson of the original driver. She worked for several years picking up dirty laundry and returning clean laundry to Coronado and Tent City residents and visitors. The icing on the cake was when legendary newsman and historian, Ken Kramer, did a piece on her for his “About San Diego” TV show on KPBS. Because of Ken Kramer, Isabelle’s story lives on …
