Have you ever tried to push the elevator button that takes you to the third floor of the Coronado Plaza and nothing happens? On Friday, February the 24th the elevator doors were unlocked allowing me to reach the top floor, and I couldn’t have imagined what awaited me once there. A variety of artists came together to display their unique creations at the new Undiscovered Gallery located on the private office floor.
Coronado’s new Undiscovered Art Gallery located at 1330 Orange Ave is featuring the very first exhibition titled ‘L’Art pour L’Art’ and showcases photography, paintings, musicians and printmaking made by budding, talented artists.

The Undiscovered Art Gallery has just been taken over by Nicole Lian Aponte, a UCLA Art grad who wants to convey the concept of this Coronado-based art gallery as a birthing ground of sorts, and foster young new artists to display their work in this non-traditional venue.
I spoke with photographer Pamela York about what drew her to the special showing of her work at our new local gallery and she said, “We hope to draw all the tourist traffic from the Del up here. It’s such a great thing that not many people know about.”
The exhibitions here are free and open to the public, and the gallery encourages Coronado’s new or up-and-coming artists to display their creations in this alternative but cozy site. Nicole Aponte is always looking for new artists to showcase their work as part of her chic, trendy shows.
This unusual and quirky space is worth checking out, especially if you’re already in the area grabbing a bite to eat or strolling to or from the Hotel Del. It is certainly a novel approach in art exhibition, and different from other artistic displays in Coronado!
The third floor of the Coronado Plaza serves as an office building during the day, but will now function as the Undiscovered Art Gallery by night every fourth Friday of the month. So go ahead and push the number 3 on the selection panel of the elevator at the Coronado Plaza, it will go beyond the second floor and when the doors open for you, you’ll be treated to an accelerating display of eclectic and vibrant creations by artists hoping to capture your imagination.
