What is your Coronado story?
I began school in Coronado in sixth grade as a transfer student. Soon after my father passed away in 2009, my mother, sister, and I moved to Coronado in the hopes of becoming closer to the schools. Coronado has become a blessing in itself. Creating much of who I have become, it’s a place to come and be a part of something bigger and more important than myself: community.
What do you like best about living here?
My love for the beach environment and incredible people in this community have me never wanting to leave. I know that here I can thrive on the voice that the amazing support system that defines Coronado gives me.
What is “The Ellie Life”?
The Ellie Life launched in September of 2011 with the hopes of becoming a place for me to relieve the everyday pain of dealing with the adjustment to life without my father. Through mentors, idols, and research about the blog world I became part of something bigger then myself. We bloggers call it the “blogosphere.” I call it home.
What do you like about attending CoSA?
CoSA isn’t just an inspirational outlet to grow and learn, courtesy of the arts. The CoSA community has my heart. Like a connected family, it gives me a place to thrive with supporters everywhere you turn.
What is your favorite memory from CHS so far?
CHS is a community unlike any other. Every year during homecoming season each grade comes together to create some of the most incredible memories we’ve ever had. Homecoming week is the absolute best time of the year. From class bonding to pep rallies, it’s a week of sheer joy.
What is your new nonprofit organization, “Speak Now”, all about?
Speak Now is an organization that launched in February of 2011 with the mission of giving voice to young women who have been silenced in the fear of being outspoken. Speak Now has the goal to outreach our hands and give love and confidence to the young women who have been stripped of the belief that they are beautiful, bold, and better then they believe themselves to be. With the help of private sponsors Speak Now launched a Facebook page that brings money to the storefront homeless shelter in San Diego, California. For every Facebook like’, 10 cents will go to aiding the teens that come to this shelter. Eventually we hope to use the money from our sponsors and Facebook likes to build a safe house for teens to go and feel loved. For now though, we are just taking it one step at a time.
When not blogging, what do you like to do with free time?
In my spare time I love to create — whether it is creating a painting, drawing, or a group idea. I love to also inspire others to create. I think a person’s greatest endeavor can be that which they thought of themselves.
