Students and teachers will line 4th street as a show of respect for Navy SEALS killed in action.
Today NAS North Island will host the funeral and memorial services for the two SEALs recently killed in action in a downed helicopter in Afghanistan. The services are today Monday (8/29) and tomorrow Tuesday (8/30). Following the services, a procession of vehicles will proceed up 4th Street and across the Coronado Bay Bridge on or about 11:00 AM. Commanding Officer of Naval Base Coronado Captain Yancy Lindsey has given our community the opportunity to pay their respects to these Fallen Warriors and their families by asking people to stand on 4th avenue to watch the procession.
Principals have been given permission from the Superintendent to allow teachers to accompany students to 4th street to honor our Fallen Warriors both days. Classes will be on the sidewalk no later than 10:50 AM in order to be in place for the first vehicle. Students are encouraged to stand upright without speaking as the vehicles go by. All have been told that appropriate signs of respect would be to hold up the American flag, place your hand over your heart, salute, or simply stand at attention.
Principals will also send an email message to all parents to let them know of this event as well as place a news article on the school website.
