Elected leaders from major California cities and counties are calling on U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer to push for a new federal transportation bill that addresses modern public transit needs, rebuilds highways and bridges and supports clean air.
“The nation’s transportation program has not been significantly updated since the creation of the Interstate Highway System in the 1950s,” said Mayor Gavin Newsom of San Francisco, among 65 leaders to sign a letter to Boxer who sits on the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.
Signing the letter from San Diego County were council members Barbara Denny of Coronado and Todd Gloria of San Diego.
