Coastal Cleanup Day 2010 is 9/25/10

Editor’s Note: The Coronado site (Silver Strand State Beach) is full, but there are more places that need help.

September 25th, 2010 is Coastal Cleanup Day

Coastal Cleanup Day is back! Find a location near you and sign up to join the biggest volunteer event in San Diego County. You can register for yourself or a group, but please contact us if you will have a group of 20 or more. Remember to bring your own bucket and work gloves to the cleanup this year so we can reduce waste heading to the landfill. Thanks for your interest in serving your community and environment!

What so great about Coastal Cleanup Day?
Trash travels. But you can help stop the flow of debris from human hands to the sea by helping at Coastal Cleanup Day. This event is the largest volunteer event in the county and spans over 80+ sites across San Diego County. We hope to build on last year’s impressive results with more than 10,000 volunteers in 2009. Locally organized by San Diego Coastkeeper and I Love A Clean San Diego, this event is sponsored by the CA Coastal Commission, Think Blue — City of San Diego Stormwater Department, and the San Diego County Board of Supervisors through the support of Greg Cox and Pam Slater-Price. Other major sponsors for 2010 include Ralph’s, Bank of America, Allied Waste, and the Sempra Energy Foundation; please visit our Sponsors Page for more info about our excellent supporters of the event!

For the second year in a row, all volunteers will receive a free ticket to ride the roller coaster at Belmont Park, and more sustainable giveaways and prizes! Scout troops will receive a free scout patch for their service to their community. We are also continuing our annual coloring contest for elementary school students for a chance to win a free art kit. Remember to download scout patch order forms and coloring contest entry forms to submit to your site captain the day of the event. We are so grateful to volunteers of all ages for helping keep San Diego’s coast a beautiful place to live and play and for helping prevent marine debris.

The first step for registering is to choose a site near you and click register to participate. If you have any questions, first consult our FAQs page. If you still want to know more, feel free to contact us! Your Inland Site Coordinator is Natalie Roberts of I Love A Clean San Diego, at (619) 291-0103 ext. 3014. Your Coastal Site Coordinator, Alicia Glassco of San Diego Coastkeeper, is at (619) 758-7743 ext. 125. With your support, we can ensure a clean, safe, and healthy San Diego community and coastline for all!
