Teacher at Coronado Middle School Passes Away

Last night, I was informed that one of the Coronado Unified School District teachers, Dr. Sue Mosolf, passed away unexpectedly at her home. Dr. Mosolf taught at Coronado Middle School (CMS) for over three years and had over twenty-five years in the profession. She was highly respected by the staff and very loved by her students. Her assignment at CMS was 6-8 grade special education. She will be missed by all of us in this close-knit school community. She was a mentor, consummate professional, and a dear friend to all.

Because Dr. Mosolf’s loss is so unexpected, students will need time to grieve and to come to terms with what has happened. Should students need help at school, counselors will be available. Additionally, we will have the assistance of other district counselors and school psychologists on campus to offer counseling support on an as-needed basis. The students will also be informed on ways they can self-refer to the counseling office for help. We will continue to support our students should they need assistance as they adjust to this sad reality.

For students who were going to be assigned to Dr. Mosolf’s classes, we will secure a highly qualified teacher as soon as possible to maintain the same quality educational program that Dr. Mosolf provided. With the help of our other special education teachers, our school staff, and the district office staff, we will work together to begin the school year for Dr. Mosolf’s students, just as she would have wanted.

Dr. Mosolf leaves behind a loving fiancée and family. If you would like to extend your sympathy to her family, you may send cards to the middle school addressed to the Family of Dr. Mosolf, c/o CMS, 550 F Avenue, Coronado, CA 92118.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced, as of yet. The staff will be planning a celebration of Dr. Mosolf’s life to be held at CMS in the near future.
