Like the Incredible Hulk, Comic-Con International is busting out all over.
With an expected attendance of 160,000 over five days, the pop-culture gathering has become so big, it can’t be confined to the downtown Convention Center. On Thursday, while Con-goers flocked to first-day panels celebrating the TV shows “Nurse Jackie” and “Weeds,” and to movie blowouts featuring appearances by Angelina Jolie, Will Ferrell , Tina Fey, Helen Mirren and Bruce Willis, the costume-loving, entertainment-obsessed spirit of Comic-Con extended a monstrous grip on San Diego’s Gaslamp District, and to the civilian locals brave enough to wander within its crowd-clogged borders.
When some everyday San Diegans ventured into Comic-Con Land, blood was shed, creativity was sparked and a day off became an adventure. Here are their heroic stories.
