SOLANA BEACH – A suspect in several recent bank robberies in Coronado was jailed Wednesday, shortly after he allegedly made a failed attempt to continue his holdup spree with a heist in the North County.
Deputies arrested Ronald Lawrence Willette, 54, in the 100 block of Plaza Street in Solana Beach about 2:15 p.m., roughly an hour after the aborted robbery at a Bank of America branch office a block to the south.
Willette allegedly handed a demand note to a teller at the bank in the 400 block of Old Highway 101, but left after the cashier turned around and walked away without giving him any money, sheriff’s Sgt. Jack Reynolds said.
A short time later, deputies responding to a call about a suspicious person near Fletcher Cove took the suspect into custody.
