It’s been an amazing year for the 1906 Lodge. We opened in May 2009 after 5 years of restoration and construction. Our vision was to create a small upscale hotel with top of the line amenities and service while honoring Coronado’s past. It would seem we have done a pretty good job at both efforts.
Our first review on Trip Advisor was June 25, 2009 and the guests gave us a 5 star rating. Since then, we have earned the #1 Coronado Hotel rating on that website. We owe much of that to our wonderful neighbors in Coronado who recommended us to their friends and families over the past year.
We have also been recognized for our historic preservation. Last fall the San Diego Architectural Foundation awarded us an “Orchid” stating, “This Irving Gill and William Hebbard designed boarding house has been brought back to life as a 17 room boutique hotel. The jury was pleased to see this commitment to preservation, showing how past and present can co-exist.” On May 21st we were honored with a “People in Preservation” award for adaptive reuse by the San Diego Save Our Heritage Organisation. We were also chosen to headline the Coronado Historical Associations 2010 Home Tour on May 2nd.
If you haven’t already had a chance to stop by and see the Lodge, please do so. The best time is midday, especially during the week. So the next time you head to the post office, walk across the street and take a peak.
