Officer uses Taser on unruly customer

CORONADO — A California Highway Patrol officer used a Taser to subdue a belligerent man at a deli Tuesday, authorities said.

The 21-year-old man, who appeared to be intoxicated, tried to buy a 40-ounce beer at Central Liquor on Orange Avenue at Second Street about 7:50 p.m., but the clerk refused to sell it to him, said CHP Officer Art Athans.

“The man then became extremely agitated, walking around the store arguing with the clerk and other people,” Athans said. The man returned to the counter and started yelling at the clerk and at a CHP officer who was there to pick up a sandwich.

The man started walking aggressively toward the officer and ignored commands to stop, Athans said. The officer then shot the man with a Taser and arrested him.
