Navy’s signs causing beach-goer confusion

CORONADO — Signs recently posted by the Navy along a strip of sandy beach connecting Coronado and Imperial Beach have some locals scratching their heads.

Three large signs warn people to watch where they walk to maintain the security of Navy training operations and protect a threatened bird’s sensitive nesting area: “Warning U.S. Navy Training Area. The signs were installed last week in front of YMCA Camp Surf north of Carnation Avenue in Imperial Beach and at the southern and northern ends of the Silver Strand Training Complex South.
