CORONADO, Calif., — Naval Base Coronado Commanding Officer, Capt. Yancy Lindsey, awarded Aviation Machinists Mate (AW/SW) 2nd Class Edward Ramos of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron (Light) (HSL) 49 the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal Dec. 10, for his actions while aiding a fellow Sailor in October. While driving past the Naval Air Station North Island Galley on October 19, Ramos saw a Sailor in distress. The Sailor appeared to be having a seizure. Ramos acted quickly to provide assistance. He provided immediate medical attention by ensuring the Sailor was lying on his side. “I wasn’t trying to be Superman, I just hope that if it were my wife, my kids, or myself, that someone would do the same,” said Ramos. Additionally, Ramos flagged down another car to have the driver call 911. “AD2 is a motivated and caring person who will help anyone, anytime, anyplace,” said Chief Petty Officer (AW/SW) Scott Cutler, Ramos’ leading chief petty officer. “His actions and quick thinking in that situation possibly saved a ship mates life. To me, he represented Honor, Courage, and Commitment to its fullest extent,” added Cutler. Ramos said he was honored to receive the award. Source: Navy Compass
