CORONADO VFW TO HONOR VETERANS – Ceremony Includes Two Special Events CORONADO The Veterans of Foreign Wars Coronado Post 2422 will salute veterans in two ceremonies Monday, May 25. The first will take place at Star Park. The second will immediately follow at the VFW headquarters in Coronado. The Star Park event is the annual Memorial Day ceremony. Those in attendance will pay tribute to the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Vice Admiral Thomas Kilcline, Commander Naval Air Forces is the guest speaker. The Star Park event begins at 10 a.m. The second event is a much-anticipated unveiling of the Coronado VFW Salute to Service Memorial. The project consists of three polished block walls and engraved memorial tiles designed to honor service members past and present. Laser-etched memorial tiles honor service members with name, branch of service, rank, and dates of service. The tiles are being sold for $100 to VFW members and families, and $150 to all others. The dedication and unveiling will begin at noon, immediately following the Color Guard’s presentation of the Colors. The guest of honor is Admiral Leon “Bud” Edney, USN (ret), who will speak about veterans past and present. Also speaking will be Commander Paul M. Williams, USN. The Post Commander will read the “Roll of Honor” (top tiles) as they are unveiled, followed by a dedication and unveiling of the rest of the memorial tribute. Star Park is located in the middle of Star Park Circle in Coronado, just one block from the business district. The VFW Headquarters is located at 557 Orange Avenue.
