Coronado High junior Ashley Young had the flu, one teammate had mono, another a sore back, and two more sprained thumbs in the two weeks leading to the girls water polo playoffs. Come the postseason, though, the Islanders seemed to find healing waters in the pool. The defending San Diego Section Division II champions appeared in top form in the semifinals last night. Young spearheaded the top-seeded Islanders with five goals and four steals as they topped Scripps Ranch 13-6 at La Jolla High’s Coggan Pool. “We’re getting healthy, and we’re going to be there (in the finals),” Young said. “We have an adrenaline rush to get through games.” Coronado will seek a title repeat against second-seeded Bishop’s, which advanced with a 15-5 victory over No. 3 La Jolla behind six goals from senior Dominique Sardo. The schools will meet in the final for the fifth straight year at 5 p.m. Saturday at the same site. Read the entire Union Tribune article here.
