Holocaust Survivor Edith Eger Inspires at Rotary Meeting

Often called “the Anne Frank Who Didn’t Die,” Holocaust Survivor Edith Eger Reveals the Strength of the Human Spirit in the Face of Evil

Pictured in the photo with Coronado Rotary guest speaker Dr. Eger are Mar Vista High School Counselor and Rotary Interact Adviser Lizzette Torres Matthews and several Interact students from Mar Vista. The Coronado Rotary sponsors the Mar Vista Interact and RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) program.

Coronado Rotarians and guests were greatly inspired by their guest speaker, Holocaust survivor, Dr. Edith Eger. At age 16 she was sent to Auschwitz, where she was commanded to dance for Josef Mengele after watching him send her mother to the gas chamber. When the Americans liberated the camps in 1945, they found Edie barely alive. Her unforgettable story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of choice in our lives.

Today, Dr. Eger is 90 years old and a renowned psychologist and speaker who specializes in treating patients, including military personnel, suffering from traumatic stress disorders. She shares her journey to gain understanding and compassion as the choices she made rather than harboring revenge and hate.
