- Sales Tax First Quarter Report: Coronado’s January through March 2016 sales tax update has been received. The report is produced by HDL Companies. Restaurants and hotels remain Coronado’s biggest sales tax generators. Coronado’s receipts from this quarter were 6.8 percent higher than the same period last year. Results in every category demonstrated an increase. San Diego County as a whole saw an increase of .7 percent over the same time last year. A copy of the first quarter sales tax update report, describing Coronado sales by business group as well as state-wide results, can be found on the city’s website.
- Golf Course Pro: The City Council this week authorized contract negotiations to begin with Brian Smock Golf to provide golf professional services at the Coronado Municipal Golf Course. If negotiations are unsuccessful, the City is authorized to initiate negotiations with the evaluation committee’s second ranked firm of Billy Casper Golf. The contract will provide the requirements of a professional golf concessionaire who is responsible for the pro shop, driving range, lessons and golf cart rentals at the first-class golf course.
- Orange Avenue Median Regulation: The City has installed signs in the median in the 800 block of Orange Avenue to inform the spontaneous crowds that gather there nightly of the City’s municipal codes. Several are outlined on the signs, including the codes on the median’s curfew, which is 11 p.m., and those concerning the prohibition of awnings, chairs and tents, except for the Independence Day Parade. The signs also ask those in the median to use crosswalks when visiting the area, clean up their trash and follow all City ordinances, including no public smoking or drinking alcohol. The ordinances that pertain to the median as well as the general surrounding area include CMC: 40.48.010 (c); 36.08.040; 40.48.012.C; and 62.30.040. Here is a link to the City’s Municipal Code.
