On the heels of the immersive world premiere Underground, a Ben Folds inspired “jukebox” musical, comes Nunsense, a familiar musical comedy that lives up to its name while continuing with the year’s theme of fun and farcical shows!
What started as a simple line of greeting cards turned into Nunsense, a 38-week cabaret show, and eventually a full-length musical, thanks to Goggin’s vision. The original Off-Broadway production premiered on December 12, 1985, and went on to run for 3,672 performances; it even earned the title of the second-longest-running Off-Broadway production in history.
The Little Sisters of Hoboken face the deadly dilemma of burying dozens of fellow nuns on a budget. Naturally, the most logical move is to stage a variety show against a backdrop of Grease the Musical, right? The zany sisters work their way through organizing a Vaudevillian-esque production, utilizing their past talents – Reverend Regina was a former carnie, and current circumstances – Sister Mary Amnesia’s memory loss makes for great conversation.
This small cast has the challenging task of carrying the unique and twisted humor of this wild musical, but they do it with ease and leave the audience in stitches.
Irreverent, but blessed with heart, you won’t want to miss the surviving talents of Little Sisters of Hoboken in Nunsense!
All performances are held at Coronado Playhouse
