Nicolas Ivanoff of France won the second race of the 2009 Red Bull Air Race World Championship season in San Diego on Sunday with a thrilling victory in the finals, beating Britain’s Paul Bonhomme into second and Austria’s Hannes Arch with a spectacular performance. It was Ivanoff’s second career victory and helped tighten up the championship by narrowing Arch’s lead at the top. Ivanoff had a brilliant run in the final, clocking the fastest time of the weekend in 1:17.21. Bonhomme was 1.11 second behind and Arch, who was hurt by a two-second penalty, was 2.59 behind. Peter Besenyei of Hungary took fourth and Australian rookie Matt Hall got his second consecutive fourth place finish.
