3RD ANNUAL ISLANDER SPORTS FOUNDATION FUNDRAISER SET
ISF will honor outstanding sports figures on March 29th
On Thursday, March 29th at 6pm at the Coronado Community Center Islander Sports Foundation, the local 501 [c] [3] dedicated to Coronado Schools Sports, hosts its 3rd annual GOT GAME Bring IT! GALA. This year ISF will present four awards to recognize great contributors to Coronado Sports. GOT GAME Bring IT! is a unique gala beginning with a “NADO Style” outdoor, sunset tailgate party feature samplings of the great Coronado eateries and pubs. The party moves indoor to the Nautilus room at the community center for entertainment, fundraising and award presentations. GOT GAME has attracted some the of the best sports personalities in Coronado history. The event has awarded CHS Hall of Fame Athlete Awards to Marty Jensen, an NCAA Champion Volleyball Player, World Champion and Olympic sailor Robbie Haines, CHS coaching legends Coach Gene Greene and Coach Ron Nixon. GOT GAME Bring IT! also recognizes All Star Families of Coronado Sports, families that continue to make it happen after high school, volunteer to support athletics in Coronado, lastly they are model philanthropic families. These attributes fulfill the criteria for All Star Family recognition as “MVP” status. The MVP All-Star family in 2010 was Valliere-Beaubien, two founding families of CHS sports. In 2011 the MVP All-Star Family award went to the generous and proud Hansen-Probasco families. The All-Star Family awards presented by ISF reflect the great community spirit of Coronado of multiple generations devoted to local service and sports. The Islander Sports Foundation also takes initiative to recognize other inspirational islanders with Honorary Hall of Fame awards, residents that provide inspiration in acts and service for the community, especially the young athletes ISF serves. In this spirit, last year GOT GAME honored local hero Stephen Wampler with an Honorary Islander Hall of Fame Award.
For the 2012 GALA the Award recipients are equally impressive. The 2012 Hall of Fame Athlete is Coronado High School (65′) graduate and NFL great Ken Huff. Coaching Legend Award recipient for 2012 is Coach Bill Parry, known as the “Godfather” of lacrosse, a true pioneer of Southern California lacrosse. The All-Star Family Award 2012 will be presented to Coronado anchor families Couture-Bingham, families that span three generations of true islanders in spirit, sport and generosity. Lastly, an Honorary Islander Hall of Fame Award will be presented to Islander icon Philip “MOKI” Martin, retired Navy SEAL, Lieutenant (03E). The class of Islander Sports Awardees 2012 go beyond deserving, each reflect the passion for life in Coronado, commitment to support our student athletes and make the future better for all islanders. The GOT Bring Bring IT! Gala is an evening where the many great Islander Sports heroes are celebrated NADO Style and funds are raised to continue the perennial champion level athletics programs at Coronado High School.
