Public Invited to Avenue of Heroes Ceremony on November 2

City to Honor 15 Hometown Heroes on Saturday, November 2

The City of Coronado invites the public to attend the next Avenue of Heroes Dedication Ceremony at Coronado High School on Saturday, November 2, 2019.

Fifteen military Hometown Heroes, who call or have called Coronado home, will be recognized and honored. Officials with the City of Coronado, VFW Post 2422, the Avenue of Heroes Neighborhood Association, the Hometown Banner Committee and the Coronado Historical Association have worked together to develop the Hometown Hero Banner program, which honors men and women from Coronado who have honorably served their country.

Each honoree’s biography will be read, and Coronado’s mayor will present them with a miniature banner, a copy of the one that will be displayed along the Avenue of Heroes (Third and Fourth streets). The ceremony will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon, at the High School Auditorium, 650 D Ave. The entrance is at the corner of D Avenue and Sixth Street. Doors will open at 10 a.m. with refreshments immediately following the ceremony.

The program is open to the public and banner submissions are open to all active duty or retired service members, from enlisted personnel to officers, who live or have lived in Coronado. In a town known for its military presence, Coronado has plenty of candidates.

Additional information on the Hometown Hero Banner program can be found by searching “Hero” on the City’s website: www.coronado.ca.us.  The City is actively accepting applications for future banner candidates living or deceased, active duty or retired, who live or have lived in Coronado and honorably serve or have served in any branch of the military.
